AU losing the opener is a bummer, as it deflates early enthusiasm for the season. Yet...if you had to pick a game to lose on the schedule this loss could be the least costly and could be the most beneficial. First, Clemson is at least the fifth best team AU will play and the young OL and DL gained valuable experience that will prepare them when playing the four better teams later in the season. Second, teams usually improve from game one to game two the most. Let's hope opening with a tough team like Clemson will pay dividends as early as next week. Third, the entire SEC schedule is yet to be played. Losing to Clemson cost us nothing in the West or SEC. If you win head to head games with the West, everything conference wise is still in play for 2012. One final thought is we all know teams that lose early can rise in the polls late. It was a bummer to lose to Clemson but if AU uses the loss to inspire them to prepare and get better as the season progresses week to week...it was the right game to lose.
