FSU THREADS - and other Auburn thoughts

  • This is embarrassing.

All of these rumors and threads related to turmoil and melt downs at FSU is apparently (and painfully obviously) are coming from Auburn fans, and it's embarrassing to say the least.

This is EXACTLY what I expect from certain rival fan bases....not ours. Have we really gotten this bad after two Top 5 recruiting classes and a national championship? If we see it slipping away or see a challenge (like a non-top 5 recruiting class) we now have to resort to such things?

It's a slippery slope. It starts with a little made up rumor here and there. Next thing we know we're creating fake AP stories and photo-shopping pictures. Where does it end? When we're creating websites on the same level of insanity as "As the Plains Burn"?

BE DIFFERENT PEOPLE! BE AUBURN PEOPLE.

Go to Google and look up the Alabama Creed. Then try the LSU Creed. For most schools, if they even have one, it's typically relate to rules and guidelines to follow as a student. It might be a phrase or a single paragraph. The Auburn Creed is more than how to act as a student. It's about being a particular kind of person. It doesn't end the day you graduate. It doesn't get put on hold when you're not on campus. It doesn't apply only to University events and grounds. We certainly don't get a pass on it just because we're on the internet.

It's about being an "Auburn" person. A "type" of person.

And the Auburn "type" person or fan, simply doesn't need to trade in the Creed and trample on what shapes our University in an effort to "win"...at anything....especially freaking recruiting 18 year old kids to the football team.

Most Auburn fans I know love Auburn University FIRST, and Auburn football second.

I hope I'm not watching those two things switch place as the pressure to "win" is at an all-time high. Let fan bases like Alabama put football above University. As Auburn fans, I hope we can all agree to not sit back and watch ourselves devolve into something that for decades we have been proud that we are NOT. Simply put...don't be them.

    War Eagle.

PS. This isn't a personal message to those who have posted FSU rumors....I know it's easy to catch a rumor here or there and just want to share it....it's just gotten to the point now that we look a little obsessed with it and it's become apparent that these lame rumors are starting with our fan base. It's with that in mind that I wrote this, not as a personal shot at anyone particular....I hope you understand and see the difference of the intent. cheers

PPS. This is also in regards to what is apparently happening on other Auburn boards as well. I share it here because I know a lot of you spend time on those boards as well. Be a voice of reason there....if possible.

I couldn't have said it better myself. What I saw in Auburn while growing up was a difference of behavior and thought. We held ourselves to higher standards and didn't let football control our lives. Let's not sink to other fan bases' levels... We may have lost our trees, but let's not forget our roots... • Well said, once again jadennis. You took the words right out of my mouth and said it much better than I could have.

"I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities."

  • I posted a similar thread in "The Bunker" earlier this afternoon....

I got screamed at by a few that told me that I needed "to get on board with the team"... What a wasteland that place has become.

I'm hoping for this place to stay above the fray.

  • THE AUBURN CREED

I believe that this is a practical world and that I can count only on what I earn. Therefore, I believe in work, hard work.

I believe in education, which gives me the knowledge to work wisely and trains my mind and my hands to work skillfully.

I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow men.

I believe in a sound mind, in a sound body and a spirit that is not afraid, and in clean sports that develop these qualities.

I believe in obedience to law because it protects the rights of all.

I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all.

I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by "doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God."

And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.

    -George Petrie (1945)

THAT is what sets us apart. We are supposed to embody these attributes! And because we, and our fellows, embody these we can love Auburn with a different love than most any other University!

  • Well Said and on point. The one advantage we have as Auburn Fans is that most of us do have ties to the University. A lot of programs across the country (State) do not have a fan base that gives a rip about the University. Case in point, several years ago the two State Universities were rasing money for a cause. Auburn asked for donations at the A-day game and bammer did the same. Auburn raised about $35,000 that day while at bammer where they had a larger crowd raised less than $5000. Auburn Fans care about our University, bammer fans care about their football team. I would like to see a study done on football season ticket holders at each school and see how much money is donated from each fan base to the University, outside of football. I believe Auburn would be proud of the results while the bammer's would be embrassed. AUBURN, The University of Alabama. Best in State.clap
