Tigers in prime position in BCS standings

Auburn coach Gene Chizik

The first BCS standings of the season have Auburn square in the hunt for a national championship.

The Tigers, No. 5 in the polls, 7-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southeastern Conference, are No. 4, behind No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Boise State,. They are No. 3, according to the computers that are used in the BCS rankings.

Auburn will have an opportunity to move even higher on Saturday when LSU (7-0, 3-0), No. 6 in the polls and the BCS standings, visits Jordan-Hare Stadium at 2:30 p.m.

Auburn coach Gene Chizik steadfastly refused to be drawn into a conversation about rankings, BCS or otherwise.

"We just have to do the things we’ve been doing every week, try to get better at every position," Chizik said. "We have a bunch of room for improvement at every position out there."
