Tigers, Tide play two today

Ace Derek Varnadore is scheduled to get a start in today's doubleheader.

AUBURN – A long day of baseball is in store at Plainsman Park.

The series opener of Auburn’s crucial three-game series against Alabama was postponed Friday night because of rain. The Tigers and Tide will play two nine-inning games today, the first starting at noon. The second will start 45 minutes after the first.

Jon Luke Jacobs and Derek Varnadore are scheduled to be Auburn’s starting pitchers.

Going into the weekend, five teams were within a game of first place. For the time being, Arkansas has taken sole possession of first place. The Razorbacks won 6-2 at South Carolina on Friday night. Mississippi State beat Ole Miss for the second straight day and moved into a tie for second for Alabama.

The Tigers (26-23, 11-13) and Crimson Tide (30-20, 12-12) will have their say today.

The stadium will be cleared following the first game and fans with tickets from Friday’s game (ticket 31) will be admitted for the second game on Saturday.

All chairback seats are sold out for Saturday, but terrace seats are available for both games at $5 each.
