The race to the finish line starts this weekend.
It’s been two weeks since Auburn moved to 13-0 with a resounding win over South Carolina in the SEC Championship game.
During those two weeks, seven Auburn coaches have been out on the road each day making in-school and in-home visits to top prospects around the country.
Many of those top Auburn targets will be in Auburn starting Friday for what is shaping up to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the season. There will be close to 15 official visitors plus some key unofficial visitors as Auburn holds its football banquet Friday and begins practice Saturday.
The Auburn coaches and support staff have been working feverishly this week to put everything together and make it a perfect 48 hours for the recruits and their guests.
Right now, Auburn has 15 commitments, which is 11th among SEC schools. South Carolina is up to 25. Arkansas, Ole Miss and Mississippi State have 24. But it’s not a race for quantity. It’s a all-out war for quality. And Auburn will win more than its fair share over the next seven weeks.
Most Auburn fans have been patient. Some are getting a little antsy and can’t see the forest through the trees. But all should be very pleased when they read about all the top prospects visiting this weekend.
We won’t list them all now. You’ll have to wait another day. But go ahead and turn those expectations up a few notches. There will be some nice surprises. This coaching staff can get it done on the recruiting trail. They proved it last year with a top five class and will take a big step toward another top-rated class this weekend.
Auburn still has about 11 more prospects to add to this class. There’s still some uncertainty at several positions like running back but things will start to clear up soon.
Strap yourselves in for a fast finish.
”It’s the Jimmy’s and Joe’s, not the X’s and O’s,” - former Auburn offensive coordinator Al Borges.
