Morgan Estell had three hits in Auburn blowout
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Auburn’s softball team struck back hard Saturday.
The No. 21 Tigers crushed No. 10 Tennessee 9-1 at Lee Stadium, bouncing back from Friday’s disappointing 2-1 loss in 10 innings.
“This was a good way to bounce back after last night,”Auburn coach Tina Deese said. “Our hitters came through and kept putting pressure on Tennessee.”
After stranding 11 baserunners Friday, the Tigers pounded out a season-high 13 hits Saturday. Morgan Estell led the way with three hits. Elizabeth Eisterhold, Lauren Guzman and Katie Colton had two hits apiece.
Lauren Schmalz improved to 12-2 with a complete-game victory .Schmalz allowed one run, on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts.
Auburn improved to 29-6 overall and 9-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee dropped to 28-6 overall and 6-4. The rubber game of the series is set for noon today.
