Rewind: Tigers offer elite OL

Ronnie Stanley

4-star OL Ronnie Stanley.

Auburn has offered an elite OL from Las Vegas, DB Travis Blanks names a top two, SG Trevor Lacey is down to three schools and much more.

    • My dad is from Kansas and most of his family still lives there so we follow Kansas basketball. With Selby leaving Kansas for sure now, I am sure Bill Self is making a strong push for Lacey. I hate Auburn missed out on him, but I wouldn't be suprised if he goes to Kansas after a visit there. It is a basketball school and I have been to a couple games there in my lifetime, it is a special place when it is rocking.

    • I hate to admit it, but I just don't think we are going to be able to bring in any top recruits to this bball program for whateevr the reason. I love bball and really miss the Person, Morris etc. era. I wish and long for those days, 5 straight trips to the big dance!

Ditto this post. I too have wondered for years why AU just can't seem to turn the corner in recruiting. Really, though, KY and UF, in recent memory, are the only SEC schools who consistently have great talent every year. Vandy has a reasonably good team each, and I credit their coach for that.

    • Wondering why a top DE recruit like Jarontay Jones from Stone Mountain, Georgia would list Florida over Auburn (1 and 2) ? Is it simply because two of his other teammates have already committed to the Gators, or perhaps does Muschamp recruit better than Roof? Or, maybe he wants to be closer to Disney World?

    • BB recruiting has so far been a disappointment for me & there are no other impact players left. People were so enthusiastic about the new arena but so far it has not helped us get 1 player (men or women) that we couldn't have gotten with the old arena. I, too, was somewhat guilty of the same thing. If Lacey goes to Bama he'll learn to play defense but his offensive skills will not improve one iota. If we don't get some impact players in next year's class our BB program may stay down for a long time................just when I'm getting close to retiring & moving to the area.

The loss of Rocker really set us back.

    • I'm with you. I see "NO" signs anywhere of getting any basketball talent. Was the new arena perhaps a total waste of 90 million you think?

    • Lacey's snub is unfortunate, but not unexpected. I watched Sonny Smith put some strong talent on the gym floor for AUBURN back in the late 70's and early 80's when no one thought that it could be done. Give Coach Barbee a chance to put his style of BBall on the court and the talent level will rise. He recruited kids to El Paso and produced a few solid teams, so he knows what it takes to build a winning program. I do not believe we have another Lebo situation on our hands today.

The AUBURN Family needs to remain strong. Talented kids want to play for a winner with strong fan support. We downsized the arena to establish a better atmosphere for the games and to take advantage of some newer architecture that provides greater form and function for the BBall program. I know it is frustrating to attempt to pack the house to watch a team that is losing more than winning, but that is exactly what needs to happen in order to give Barbee the fan support necessary to build an exciting environment that will get that one special player to come aboard. It starts with one who entices another, and so on. Our FBall program has shown the way in how to recruit a winning program that yields dividends across multiple years versus a once and done syndrome.

A solid BBall coach needs three to four years to get a program on track with the right players for his / her system to take hold and demonstrate what their capable of delivering going forward. I live too far away to attend games personally, but I try to catch the AUBURN Tigers on TV at every opportunity. Barbee is a winner and he needs our continued support to finish turning this program around. I believe he will get it done, but he needs the fan base support to show strength in numbers, while he attempts to get the best available to build his style of game and yield a consistent winner from season to season. War Eagle!

    • I'M WITH YOU, AU4ME81. I HAVE FAITH IN BARBEE ALSO, AND FEEL HE WILL GET THE JOB DONE. EVEN THOUGH WE HAD THE LOSING SEASON, WE SHOWED GOOD SIGNS OF THINGS TO COME. JUST LISTEN TO AN INTERVIEW WITH HIM AND YOU SHOULD BE CONVINCED THAT HE FEELS CONFIDENT AND WILL START GETTING SOME TOP-NOTCH RECRUITS BEFORE LONG. A COUPLE OR THREE GOOD RECRUITS, A WINNING SEASON, AND THEY'LL BEAT OUR DOOR DOWN TO BE A PART OF IT.
