BACK FOR BIG CAT: After a swing of visits to SEC schools Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and Vanderbilt a couple of weeks ago, offensive tackle Jordan Diamond from Simeon in Chicago, Ill., has the Tigers and Vols in his top five along with Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. The 4-star plans to return to Auburn at the end of May for Big Cat Weekend.
Diamond is a top AU target.
“Auburn, they have the best coaching staff as far as chemistry wise with me,” Diamond told 247Sports. “I was laughing and talking with all of them. They’re down to earth and straight forward, and they get down to business but they’re family guys. Coach (Gene) Chizik broke it down to me that he hired his staff based on how they were as family men and how they would get along with the players. I met some of the players and they were pretty cool and that might be a fit for me.”
TARGETING THE SHOW-ME STATE: Auburn is targeting the state of Missouri for two of the nation’s top wide receiver prospects. Auburn’s coaches dropped in to visit both Dorial Green-Beckham from Hillcrest in Springfield and Durron Neal from DeSmet in St. Louis last week.
Green-Beckham is already a well-known prospect as a 5-star and the nation’s No. 1 wide receiver according to 247Sports. But Neal, who is rated a 4-star and the nation’s No. 11 receiver, is also an elite prospect, with more than two dozen offers including one from Auburn. Neal remains wide open in his recruitment and plans to hold off on a decision until the U.S. Army All-American game.
“I just want to be a part of a program where I feel comfortable and I fit in,” Neal told 247Sports. “I want to be coached by guys that keep things real with me. Be a part of a program with a nice atmosphere and rich tradition. Things like that. And academics is always going to be No. 1 because nobody can play football forever.”
KEEPING IN TOUCH: 5-star offensive tackle Andrus Peat has been very quiet when it comes to recruiting and has yet to name any leaders. Peat, who has offers from across the country, visited Florida State a couple of weeks ago and is welcoming a constant stream of college coaches by his high school each week.
"I know USC, Michigan and Auburn are planning to come by this week," Peat told 247Sports. "There could be some others but those are the ones I know of right now. I don't have any other visits planned so far."
