Rewind: More camp standouts

DEFENSIVE END EXCELS: Three-star defensive end JaMichael Winston from Vigor High School in Prichard put on a show at Auburn’s senior mini-camp Sunday, consistently beating his man in one-on-one drills. Winston said he won every time and enjoyed working with defensive line coach Mike Pelton.

“Coach Pelton told me to stay low, use my hands more and flip my hips,” Winston said. “We had a real good connection. He’s a real cool guy. I like Coach Pelton a lot.”

Winston said he’s up to 13 offers, including Louisville, Southern Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Florida, Memphis and Troy. His teammate, defensive lineman Darius Philon, committed to Auburn a couple of weeks ago.

“I like Auburn a lot,” Winston said. “I’m just waiting on them to come through.”

RECEIVER COMES UP BIG: One of the standouts at the passing camp was Auburn High School receiver Cody Core, who scored approximately 14 touchdowns in leading the Tigers to the championship game. Core, 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, has offers from Georgia State and Central Arkansas and interest from several other schools.

“I want a good environment and a good team with a great work ethic,” Core said.

NEXT CUT COMING UP: Auburn made the first cut for 5-star running back Keith Marshall from Millbrook High in Raleigh, N.C. The Tigers were one of 12 finalists for Marshall, who then added Oregon and Miami to the list. He’s planning to cut his list down further in the next couple of months. Marshall plans to graduate in December and enroll in college in January.

“I will cut it down again right before the season starts,” Marshall told 247Sports. “I’m not sure what I will cut it down to. I may decide early, but I will announce my decision in December, possibly at the Under Armour All-American game.”

SURPRISING COMMITMENT: Four-star defensive back Travis Blanks surprised even himself when he committed to Clemson om Friday over a number of other offers, including Auburn and Georgia.

“I had no clue when I was going to make it, really,” Blanks told 247Sports of his decision. “I just prayed about it and woke up (Friday) morning and had a feeling. This is what God led me to do. To me, I’d planned to make my decision in the fall. But that’s not what God had in store.”

THIS AND THAT: Linebacker Kwon Alexander and athlete Trae Elston are scheduled to attend an Oregon camp next week. … Kentucky is up to nine commitments with the addition defensive tackle Pat Graffree from Central Hardin in Cecilia, Ky. ... Florida added its 11th commit from 4-star cornerback Brian Poole from Southeast in Bradenton, Fla. ... Alabama is up to 13 commitments after picking up wide receiver Casey Gadney from Columbia (S.C.) High. … Georgia added four in-state commitments over the weekend, picking up 3-star fullback Quayvon Hicks from Pierce County in Blackshear, punter Collin Barber from Cartersville and 4-star defensive tackle Jonathan Taylor and 3-star defensive end James Deloach from Jenkins County in Millen. The Bulldogs are up to 10 commits.
