Rewind: Auburn in top group

GOOD EARLY START FOR TIGERS: Defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche from Grayson in Loganville, Ga., is already being hailed as a future 5-star and potential No. 1 overall prospect in the 2013 class. Nkemdiche visited Auburn this spring and has the Tigers among his early leaders.

Nkemdiche is a potential 5-star.

“Right now I'd say Alabama, Auburn and Georgia have my early attention. Georgia Tech and Texas as well,” Nkemdiche told 247Sports.

Nkemdiche also said distance won't be a factor in his recruitment and he plans to graduate in December. His mother, who went to Michigan State, is currently a Governor in an African nation and he lives with his high school coach, Mickey Conn.

FINAL TRIP FOR TIGHT END: Tight end Ricky Parks from Callaway in Hogansville, Ga., is planning a final visit to Auburn this Saturday and then a decision by the end of May or early June. The 4-star has narrowed his list to Georgia, Alabama and Auburn.

“I don’t know what that one thing is, but I am looking for something to stand out to me, to help me make my decision easier,” Parks told 247Sports. “I am really leaning on my dad to help me make this decision too.”

BIG-TIME DL NOT IN A HURRY: Six of his teammates have already committed but 4-star defensive lineman Justin Shanks from Prattville (Ala.) High is in no hurry to make a decision. He recently added offers from Clemson, Florida State, and USC. Shanks has been invited to Auburn’s Big Cat Weekend at the end of May but hasn’t decided if he will attend.

“I’m going to take my time with recruiting,” Shanks told 247Sports. “I want to have a top ten by the time schools starts and then I might narrow it down to five during the season. I know I want to wait after my visits. I recently accepted an invitation to the Army-All American game, so I might decide on television. I’ll probably take my official visits some time after the season.”

NEW OFFER FOR TOP ARKANSAS PROSPECT: 4-star athlete Zac Brooks from Jonesboro, Ark., recently added an offer from Notre Dame. He now has more than 10 offers including Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Clemson, North Carolina and Stanford. Brooks, who has visited Auburn twice in the past year, may wait until after his senior season to narrow his list.

“I’m just focusing on my grades in school and taking care of myself in the present before I start to worry about the future,” Brooks told 247Sports. “I want to go to a school that’ll give me the chance to play early and will prepare me for the NFL. I also want to major in something to do with computer technology, so if they’re good in that field then that’s even better.”

THIS AND THAT: Tight end Justin Meredith from T.L. Hanna in Anderson, S.C., plans a return trip to Auburn at the end of May for Big Cat Weekend ..... Running back Donovan Roberts from Norman (Okla.) High committed to Arkansas Wednesday. The Razorbacks now have six commitments ... Georgia added its sixth commit Thursday from 4-star linebacker Leonard Floyd from Dodge County in Eastman, Ga. ..... Cornerback D.J. White from Union Grove in McDonough, Ga., committed to South Florida Thursday.
