Rewind: 5-star visit in works

5-STAR PLANNING AUBURN TRIP: 5-star offensive tackle Andrus Peat from Corona Del Sol in Tempe, Ariz., has already unofficially visited Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Texas this summer and would like to make one more trip before the start of his senior season.

Peat is a top Auburn target.

"I'm thinking about visiting Auburn in the next couple of weeks. I'm not sure yet," Peat told Jason Sapp at "I'm starting to figure out official visits."

Peat, 6-foot-7 and 285 pounds, is still considering 13 schools: Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, Texas and USC. So far, he’s not ready to name any finalists.

"I don't know. Now that I think about it, it's hard to say any schools that are definite finalists because so much can change," he said.

MILLER CHECKS OUT THE SOONERS: 4-star offensive tackle Patrick Miller from Dwyer in Palm Beach, Fla., has visited several school this summer including Auburn. His latest trip was to Oklahoma and he returned with a top five of Auburn, LSU, Florida, Miami and Oklahoma. He graduates high school in December.

“I am looking for somewhere I can possibility have a shot at the highest level of ball that I can play,” Miller told James Hale of “I also want a school that I would like to go to and be a student there for four years. I don’t want to be stuck at the best program if I don’t like where it is at.

“These schools are all pretty even with me right now, but if they are in this state (Florida) they obviously have a leg up. Miami is so close to me so that makes that a pretty easy decision for me, but LSU is one of my favorite schools and Auburn is probably one of them, and I am very interested in Oklahoma. Depth chart is not going to bother me, but style of play is something that I am going to look at. I don’t care if it is a pro or spread offense; my only concern is how they are using their left tackle. Are they in pass pro or run blocking a lot? Do they jump-set people and are they doing things that the NFL looks for?”

MORE FROM GENO SMITH: 4-star cornerback Geno Smith from St. Pius X in Atlanta, Ga., is set to announce a decision between Auburn and Alabama on Aug. 17. Here’s what Smith told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about his upcoming announcement.

“In my opinion, they are both very similar,” Smith told the AJC. “Coach (Nick) Saban and Coach (Gene) Chizik are both great defensive coaches. I enjoyed myself when I visited each school this summer. I really felt comfortable at both places. It’s going to be a really hard decision on where I want to go out of those two.”

BIG DAY IN RECRUITING: Two 5-stars are set to announce their decisions Friday. Offensive tackle D.J. Humphries from Mallard Creek in Charlotte, N.C., will choose Florida or Tennessee while wide receiver Chris Black from First Coast in Jacksonville, Fla., will commit to Alabama or Florida State.

Most prognosticators are picking the Gators to land Humphries and Black to roll with the Tide. Florida State picked up a big 5-star commit earlier this week when quarterback Jameis Winston from Hueytown (Ala.) High picked the Seminoles over Alabama.
