Rewind: 5-star may visit

5-STAR OT MAY VISIT: San Clemente (Calif.) High five-star offensive tackle Kyle Murphy has already visited most of the top schools on the West coast. This summer, the nation’s No. 9 overall prospect is planning to check out some of the top programs in the Midwest and South.

Murphy is a 5-star.

“A school in the Midwest like a Notre Dame or Michigan, or a school in the South like an Auburn or Florida,” are schools Murphy told 247Sports he’d like to visit.

STILL ON THE MARKET: Wide receiver Avery Johnson from Ely in Pompano Beach, Fla., committed to LSU last October but the 4-star is still planning to visit other schools. He’s considering trips to Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Florida State, Miami, North Carolina, South Carolina, Notre Dame and USC. Johnson decided to visit other schools based on the advice of his older brother, former LSU cornerback and first-round NFL draft pick Patrick Peterson.

“He just tells me to take the recruiting process slow,” Johnson told 247Sports. “He told me to make sure I make the right pick for me and make sure I fit in with the school. He told me to look around and enjoy the process.”

“...Anything can happen. I’m in between right now. I’m going to take some unofficial visits this summer. I want to take as many visits as possible. Then I’m going to narrow it down to five schools and take official visits to those schools. I’m going to make my final decision at the Under Armour All-American game. That is definite.”

AUBURN CHECKS ON ELITE DT: Auburn defensive line coach Mike Pelton was at Warren Central in Indianapolis Monday to check on defensive tackle Sheldon Day. The 4-star already has 20 offers and hopes to add another one from Auburn before a planned visit to the defending National Champions in June.

“I’m looking at everybody,” Day told 247Sports. “Academics are important. I want to major in business or engineering. Also, how good the coaching relationship is with me.”

MAKING THE FIRST CUT: Defensive end Gimel President from Mount Pleasant in Wando, S.C., is planning to cut his list to five or six schools within the next week. President, 6-foot-4 and 250 pounds, has a dozen offers including Auburn, Clemson, South Carolina, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech and Tennessee. President hasn’t visited Auburn but plans to see both Auburn and Tennessee this summer.

“Really I’m looking for the same things that everybody else is looking for,” President told 247Sports. “Academics and graduation rates of the schools are important. Playing time is going to be a big factor and I like how the coaching staff has told me that I have a good chance to play as a freshman if I come there.

“Right now the plan is to narrow my list down here this week. From there I will take some unofficial visits this summer and I hope to make a decision before my senior season begins but we will just see how things play out.”

THIS AND THAT: Linebacker Jacob Sealand from Tucker (Ga.) High committed to Vanderbilt Sunday over offers from Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Purdue. The Commodores have two commitments ..... Texas A&M added its 22nd commitment Friday from wide receiver Bralon Addison from Hightower in Missouri City, Texas ..... Linebacker Harding Harper from Carver in Montgomery, Ala., recently added an offer from Tennessee ..... Linebacker Dillon Lee from Buford (Ga.) High will commit to Alabama, Florida State, Georgia or USC Monday night. The Tide and Seminoles are considered the leaders.
