Rewind: 2013 LB names Top 10

2013 LB NAMES TOP 10: 2013 linebacker Trey Johnson from Central Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Ga., has already garnered a long list of offers so he felt it was necessary to narrow his list to a top 10 before the start of his junior season. His finalists are Auburn, Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, South Carolina, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and Miami.

Johnson is a top Auburn target for 2013.

“Some are ahead of others but everyone is basically the same,” Johnson told 247Sports. “I’ve really been getting out to schools and I felt it was time to let people know which schools stand out to me. That way, I won’t have as much to worry about going into the season.”

Johnson, 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, has visited Auburn a couple of times this summer. “I love pretty much everything (about Auburn),” he said. “I love the facilities, the coaches. The players love it here so it just has to be great here.”

SLEEPER DL HAS TOP THREE: 3-star defensive end Sheldon Rankins from Eastside in Covington, Ga., recently named a top three of Auburn, North Carolina and South Florida. Rankins, 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds, plans to go on all five of his official visits this fall before making a decision. He plans to major in pre-med so academics will be a big part of his decision.

“I liked Auburn for a while, even before the national championship and Cam Newton and all of that,” Rankins told 247Sports. “It was real good to get that offer because I had been looking at them for a while. Great school with great education and great tradition. If I was to go there, I would be very happy to go into that situation and they said they needed some speed off the edge and they said I could bring that.”

JONES TALKS FAVORITES: 3-star cornerback Jonathan Jones from Carrollton (Ga.) High has mentioned Auburn, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech as the three schools that stand out the most to him. He plans to officially cut his list to 2-3 schools this fall and make a final decision after a couple of official visits.

"Getting offered by Auburn did put them up there and I like talking to Coach Gene Chizik of Auburn and Coach Dan Mullen of Mississippi State," Jones told 247Sports. "Right now I still have a lot of stuff to see in the fall so I am wide open. I am not focused on just one group of schools right now. But I still talk to Auburn, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech a lot and talked to all of them last week."

BERRY TWINS HAVE BRIGHT FUTURE: Although just sophomores, twins Evan and Elliot Berry from Creekside in Fairburn, Ga., are already receiving recruiting attention from a number of big-time schools. Older brother Eric Berry was an All-American at Tennessee and the No. 5 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. Father, James, was a running back for the Vols but the twins have been spending a lot of time in Auburn this past year. Many of those trips have been with teammate Joshua Holsey, who is committed to Auburn.

"That's one of their good friends so they just kind of go down there and run with him," Eric Berry told ESPN. "I don't think they're leaning anywhere at this point. They've got their options open. I tell them just like my Pops told me, 'Don't let anybody put any pressure on you about where you want to go.' They've got to go where they want to go."
