Offensive line coach Jeff Grimes doesn't get as much attention as some on the Auburn staff and doesn't seek it. But he certainly got the attention of South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier in Auburn's 35-27 victory last Saturday.

There's lots of hope at Georgia that the return of wide receiver A.J. Green from a four-game suspension will spark a rally from an 0-3 SEC start. It could happen, but it seems from afar that the Bulldogs have more problems than the loss of one wide receiver. ...

Backup Auburn quarterback Barrett Trotter isn't about to say it, but he has to have a little extra pep in his step this week. If things go as they should, Trotter should get his first extended game action in Saturday's game against Louisiana-Monroe. ...

If you haven't watched the video of Tuesday's interview with starting quarterback Cam Newton on the premium message board, I highly recommend it. Asked how he stayed humble with so much praise coming his way, Newton looked back to last season at Blinn Community College.

"I just consider myself a blessed individual," Newton said. "I just remember. My humble foundation is I remember 365 days ago, where was I was in Brennan, Texas. Nobody really cared what I was doing. That’s where I get my humbleness from. Gus Malzahn and Kristi Malzahn also keep me very, very down to earth." ...

Auburn hasn't historically played particularly well in early games, and I wouldn't be shocked if Saturday morning's game against Louisiana-Monroe is something of a yawner. The Warhawks might be good enough to be an irritant for a while, but I doubt it. ...
