How did Auburn's once flourishing pipeline to the NFL slow to a trickle?
Nice article PM!
Or How To Undermine Your Host Recruiting Service
It has been interesting to listen to Auburn folks talk about this over the years. Just based on what I have heard from fans, when Tubbs had that bad season in 2008 and had to go, it was his recruiting philosophy that brought him down. He was getting his head handed to him by the recruiting machine on the other side of the state who started bringing in classes rated #1. Then Chiz and company come in and their philosophy was different. The fan's reaction was easy to predict, we were starting to kick butt in recruiting. Some even said that we were going to go head to head with or even dominate the recruiting maching on the other side of the state who was bringing in the top ranked clalss most years. Now we have changed philosophies again, evidently going back to a philosophy similalr to the one followed by Tubbs. At the moment we haven't lost any games under the new staff and all is well with recruiting in the minds of the fans. It will be interesting to see how things develop.

Virtually every player that Saban recruits is highly ranked with "stars"
and they fit their system....the results speak for themselves
The fact that Gus had to go heavily with jc guys tells you the last staff didn't recruit wisely as we were bragging about our recruiting rankings.
I also still believe that the premium players get paid to this day. Ohio State, Miami and USC have the ncaa letters to prove it.
Some schools coerce monetarily then try to divert attention to the school across the state. Every dog has his day.
Phillip, I agree with this assessment about coach Malzahn and staff. Stars don't matter if you don't dont do your own evaluations and can't coach them. However we have a right mix. There is a reason why all the BCS champions usually have rosters full of top 10 classes (2010 AU team an exception). But those teams have great coaching as well. The way I see it, you need both to be a consistent player in the championship sweepstakes
the first round of this draft was filled with 4 and 5 Star players, at least half of the 32 picks were 4 and 5 stars and it seems there were very few low rated, 2 star or worse in the first round.
