I watched a good bit of Carver's televised rout of Tri Cities on television Friday night. No one will ever call me an expert evaluator of talent, but unless I my guess, Carver quarterback and Auburn commitment Jeremy Johnson is going to be a star in college. ...

With a four-game stretch ahead that could save or destroy Auburn's season, the Tigers have to find some answers on offense, answers they haven't found since early last season, if they are to make any kind of move. ...

Perhaps most of all, the Tigers must play with the kind of effort and passion they displayed in falling 12-10 to No. 2 LSU. Players, without exception, will tell you the game is much more fun when played that way. So why has this Auburn team seemingly had problems summoning that mindset? ...

I don't know what the future holds for freshman Auburn quarterback Jonathan Wallace, but he is one impressive young man. ...

The games I look most forward to watching at least in part today:

* Arkansas at Texas A&M. My main interest, of course, is that Auburn plays Arkansas next Saturday. But I'm also eager to get my first real view of the train wreck that Arkansas has become.

* Tennessee at Georgia. Tennessee's Derek Dooley is running out of chances to get a signature win. Without one, will he be the Tennessee coach in 2013?

* Ole Miss at Alabama. It probably won't be much of a game, but it will be my first chance to watch Alabama for more than a few snaps.

* Texas at Oklahoma State. Should be lots of offensive fireworks.

* One game I'm glad I don't have to watch: Towson at LSU. My goodness. ..

Tony Franklin's version of the spread offense is piling up yards and points at Louisiana Tech. I really don't believe Franklin's scheme would have been overly successful long-term in the SEC, but I was reminded of something he told me in the summer of 2008. He said it would take three years for his offense to really hit on all cylinders. ...
