Penny made a good pick of Missouri upsetting Georgia but Matthews correctly picked Wisconsin over Northwestern, Oregon State over Washington State and BYU over Georgia Tech.
On the season, Matthews improved to 105-27 to take a three-game lead over Penny, who is 102-30.
No. 24 Auburn, off to a 5-1 start, goes on the road for the second time this season at No. 7 Texas A&M. Will the Tigers pull off a big upset?
No. 24 Auburn (5-1, 2-1 SEC) at No. 7 Texas A&M (5-1, 2-1)
Bryan’s take: Auburn started off the week a 14-point underdog, which is understandable. Auburn lost by two touchdowns at LSU and the Texas A&M’s offense leads the SEC in scoring. It would be a big upset if Auburn comes out of Kyle Field with a win. I don’t pick many double-digit dogs to win, especially on the road, but I’ve got a feeling these Tigers will play really good Saturday against an Aggie defense that’s 13th in the SEC against the run and last in total yards.
Auburn 44, Texas A&M 41
Austin’s take: Auburn’s ground attack, A&M’s aerial raid; this is bound to be an incredible showing of college football. I expect the Tigers’ to show resilience and toughness against one of the nation’s top offensive teams.
Auburn 38, Texas A&M 35
No. 15 Georgia (4-2, 3-1) at Vanderbilt (3-3, 0-3)
Austin’s take: The Bulldogs are hurt, but not completely out of competing at a high level. I expect Vanderbilt to start off strong early, but fade early in the third quarter.
Georgia 41, Vanderbilt 34
Bryan’s take: The Bulldogs should bounce back after a tough loss to Missouri. Getting Todd Gurley back, he’s practicing this week, would be a big boost.
Georgia 35, Vanderbilt 24
No. 11 South Carolina (5-1, 3-1) at Tennessee (3-3, 0-2)
Bryan’s take: Tennessee has had some tough losses this season and this is going to be another one.
South Carolina 26, Tennessee 21
Austin’s take: South Carolina and running back Mike Davis will have the advantage over the Vols.
South Carolina 27, Tennessee 21
No. 22 Florida (4-2, 3-1) at No. 14 Missouri (6-0, 2-0)
Austin’s take: Missouri’s will be without quarterback James Franklin this weekend, but the Tigers’ experience on defense and high-tempo offense will still get it done.
Missouri 24, Florida 21
Bryan’s take: I don’t like the way Florida is playing right now. Their offense is just plain awful and the defense took a step backwards against LSU. I think Missouri will find a way to stay undefeated without starting quarterback James Franklin.
Missouri 17, Florida 13
Arkansas (3-4, 0-3) at No. 1 Alabama (6-0, 3-0)
Bryan’s take: Another easy win for the Tide. Arkansas is all kinds of bad.
Alabama 48, Arkansas 0
Austin’s take: Alabama will cruise, and the Razorbacks will lose.
Alabama 35, Arkansas 7
No. 6 LSU (6-1, 3-1) at Ole Miss (3-3, 1-3)
Austin’s take: LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger will bounce back in a big way against the Rebels.
LSU 31, Ole Miss 21
Bryan’s take: What a tough stretch for an Ole Miss football team that is pretty beat up after consecutive losses to Alabama, Auburn and Texas A&M. It’ll be four in a row Saturday but the Rebels’ next three are Idaho, Arkansas and Troy at home.
LSU 35, Ole Miss 24
Bryan’s take: Oklahoma State 34, TCU 20; Syracuse 21, Georgia Tech 20; Stanford 35, UCLA 28; Maryland 24, Wake Forest 20; Arizona State 45, Washington 28; Notre Dame 30, USC 21; Florida State 42, Clemson 38; Wisconsin 31, Illinois 21; Utah 38, Arizona 33; BYU 31, Houston 24.
Austin’s take: Oklahoma State 34, TCU 27; Georgia Tech 28, Syracuse 21; UCLA 28, Stanford 27; Maryland 21, Wake Forest 14; Washington 31, Arizona State 30; USC 21, Notre Dame 17; Florida State 35, Clemson 31; Wisconsin 28, Illinois 17; Arizona 38, Utah 28; BYU 24, Houston 17.
