Fearless forecasters, Week 5

AUBURN, Ala. -- Young gun Austin Penny finally broke the tie with a 15-4 week, edging out or reining champion, Bryan Matthews, who finished 14-5 on the week.

Auburn (3-1) will return to action next Saturday when Ole Miss visits Jordan-Hare Stadium/Todd Van Emst photo

Penny correctly picked Rutgers over Arkansas, USC over Utah State and Texas over Kansas State.

It’s remains a very tight race with Penny holding the edge, 62-18 to 61-19, over Matthews.

Auburn is off this week after a 3-1 start to the season but there are some big SEC and national games to watch.

No. 12 South Carolina (2-1, 1-1 SEC) at Central Florida (3-0)

Bryan’s take: The Knights are off to a great start with wins over Akron, FIU and Penn State but don’t have the firepower to hang with the Gamecocks.

South Carolina 38, Central Florida 21

Austin’s take: Things are bound to get hairy this weekend for the Gamecocks. I expect this one to be way closer that most think.

South Carolina 38, Central Florida 35

South Alabama (2-1) at Tennessee (2-2, 0-1)

Austin’s take: Tennessee has a mess at QB, but it’s not going to affect the Vols too much this weekend.

Tennessee 31, South Alabama 21

Bryan’s take: Tennessee has been outscored 90-31 over the last two games but the Vols should get back on track against the Jaguars.

Tennessee 31, South Alabama 17

No. 6 LSU (4-0, 1-0) at No. 9 Georgia (1-1, 1-0)

Bryan’s take: Man, this is a tough one. Both have really good offenses and suspect defenses but I’ll take the Dawgs at home.

Georgia 34, LSU 31

Austin’s take: The game of the week will surely be a close one as two of the nation’s top teams face off. I expect LSU to pull ahead late in this one.

LSU 28, Georgia 24

No. 21 Ole Miss (3-0, 1-0) at No. 1 Alabama (3-0, 1-0)

Austin’s take: It doesn’t get much better than two undefeated schools meeting up in the SEC. Unfortunately I believe that the Rebels will be exposed this weekend.

Alabama 34, Ole Miss 17

Bryan’s take: This could be an exciting game but I have a feeling it won’t.

Alabama 38, Ole Miss 21

No. 10 Texas A&M (3-1, 0-1) at Arkansas (3-1, 0-0)

Bryan’s take: Arkansas finally opens up SEC play and it won’t be pretty.

Texas A&M 45, Arkansas 13

Austin’s take: The SEC is relentless and evil at times. The Razorbacks have a one of the toughest journeys ahead, and it starts with Johnny Manziel.

Texas A&M 49, Arkansas 13

No. 20 Florida (2-1, 1-1) at Kentucky (1-2, 0-0)

Austin’s take: The Gators’ new quarterback Tyler Murphy will get things going early. Kentucky plays strong at home, but not strong enough.

Florida 24, Kentucky 10

Bryan’s take: I’m tempted to pick an upset. I’m not getting good vibes from Gainesville but it’s hard to imagine Kentucky’s offense doing much against a stout Gator defense even without defensive tackle Dominique Easley.

Florida 23, Kentucky 6

Arkansas State (2-2) at Missouri (3-0, 0-0)

Bryan’s take: Missouri should continue its good start.

Missouri 42, Arkansas State 21

Austin’s take: Just one more week until Missouri plays an SEC school.

Missouri 34, Arkansas State14

UAB (1-2) at Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-2)

Austin’s take: There won’t be any trouble in this one. I expect wide receiver Jordan Matthews to have his best game of the season this weekend.

Vanderbilt 35, UAB 10

Bryan’s take: The Commodores get back over .500 for the season.

Vanderbilt 24, UAB 10

Bryan’s take: Pittsburgh 22, Virginia 20; Duke 31, Troy 20; Florida State 38, Boston College 20; Clemson 31, Wake Forest 21; Oklahoma 28, Notre Dame 24; Minnesota 17, Iowa 14; Washington 35, Arizona 34; Ohio State 38, Wisconsin 24; Stanford 35, Washington State 28; Arizona State 21, USC 20.

Austin’s take: Virginia 24, Pittsburgh 21; Duke 42, Troy 38; Florida State 49, Boston College 17; Clemson 41, Wake Forest 13; Oklahoma 28, Notre Dame 27; Minnesota 31, Iowa 28; Washington 34, Arizona 17; Ohio State 31, Wisconsin 21; Stanford 27, Washington State 14; Arizona State 30, USC 20.
