AUBURN – Gene Chizik says he likes watching his third Auburn football team practice. He says he likes watching young players grow.

But for all the progress that has been made, he says, there is so much more to be made.
“It’s great some of our younger guys are getting reps, because that’s about all we have,” Chizik deadpanned. “They’ve been fun to watch and fun to coach because they are all zeroed in on learning. I think there have been a lot of strides made, with a lot of strides to go.”
Chizik saw some good things in Wednesday’s practice, the 11th of the spring. But he wanted more.
“I thought it was a good practice today, but I didn’t feel completely good about the tempo and energy as compared to some of the previous days,” Chizik said. “I thought we did get some good teaching and good learning today, but I wish the energy level had been a little higher.”
The Tigers will practice again Friday. The A-Day game is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The final practice of the spring is set for next Monday.
“I think we’ve made a lot of strides, but we have a long way to go,” Chizik said. “We will finish up the next three practices, hopefully, with much more energy than we had today. We did do some good things. I think we made some strides in some areas in terms of installation and getting some new things in. Hopefully, tempo-wise and energy-wise it will be a little better Friday.”
