Chizik: Attention won't change Newton

Gene Chizik

Auburn coach Gene Chizik said Tuesday at his weekly news conference that he expects junior quarterback Cam Newton to handle the spotlight that grows ever brighter.

Newton's spectacular performance in last Saturday's 35-27 victory over South Carolina has sparked talked that he could be a Heisman Trophy candidate. He leads the So;utheastern Conference in rushing and passing efficiency.

"I would think that Cameron is going to handle it very well," Chizik said. "He understands the importance of winning games. We’re not in the mentality of ‘Look at me.’ He’s been great about that. I don’t think that will change in any way, shape or form. This is about a team coming together, getting and identity, becoming a team and winning games."
