AUBURN, Ala. -- Two weeks from today, Auburn will receive signed National Letters of Intent from around 25 of the nation’s top prospects.
Auburn coach Gus Malzahn has the Tigers recruiting at a high level.
It’s the culmination of more than a year of hard work for many of the coaches that first starting building relationships with some of these players when they were freshmen or sophomores in high school.
Right now, Auburn sits at No. 7 in the 247Sports Team Rankings, and the Tigers have a shot to finish in the top five if they can close with some of the top targets on their board including 5-star linebacker Rashaan Evans, 4-star offensive lineman Braden Smith and 4-star defensive end Andrew Williams.
Evans and Williams are long-time Auburn targets, while Smith has shown increasing interest after Auburn’s success this fall and an official visit last weekend.
He’s a great example of Auburn’s coaching staff not standing still, not being satisfied with the status quo. Auburn’s coaches, who can continue to visit prospects at their schools and homes for the next 10 days, have made a point to try and get back in the mix with a number of elite national prospects.
They’ve been trying to secure a visit from 5-star offensive tackle Damian Prince. They brought in Texas 4-star cornerback commitment John Bonney and LSU 4-star defensive tackle commitment Davon Godchaux for official visit last weekend.
And that’s just a sample of some of the prospects Auburn’s coaches have visited over the past couple of weeks.
They’ve also spent a lot of their time checking on top 2015 and 2016 prospects, and you’ll see many of those targets visiting Auburn over the coming weeks and months.
If you’re a recruiting junkie, this is a great time to follow the Tigers’ efforts. There’s no telling what big news awaits right around the corner. Frankly, I’d be surprised if there weren’t some more surprises over the next 14 days.
Strap yourselves in, it’s going to be a fun ride to the finish line.
