    • The entire football progam is different than ever before, and in my opinion, much better. It's not just football. The Auburn of the middle twentieth Century is long gone-replaced by a much better Auburn of the early twenty-first century. Has the change gone far enough?

I agree that Auburn football is better than anything since Pat Dye. We are getting some of the best athletes out there and are in the running for some the elite. But unfortunately so is everyone else. As great as our recruiting is, it is still behind some of the perennial recruiting powerhouses. Texas , Alabama, now Michigan all seem to out recruit us. Having said that, I would not exchange our program for any in the country. Auburn is what it is, a great program that is a few blue chip signees shy of being an elite program. Maybe we can get a few of those this weekend.

As far as everything besides football you refer to, I think we have a lot of improvement needed

No, but I've mentioned several on the board and in stories such as DT Montravius Adams, ATH Jason Smith, OL Ethan Pocic, maybe Tony Whitehead. Most of Auburn's commits will be there except Jarrad Davis, who is going to see his sick grandmother.

Auburn is hoping to bring in as many of its top targets as possible.

    • I love the job that Bryan and Phillip and AUC does. I enjoy site. I do not enjoy the ranking and the fact that most other sites have Lawson and Dee Lanier ranked as elite players. I get sick and tired of this site giving 5 stars to all of Bama's players while AU gets slighted (or so it seems). I hear the rumor of the reason why and I am trying not to believe it but...

No offense but I get tired of folks coming on here and making these accusations when it's not close to the truth. I just checked Rivals and they have Liner, Lawson, T Johnson and Robinson as 4-stars just like 247 does. They also have J Johnson and C Toney as 3-stars while 247 has them as 4-stars. Rivals has Hutchinson a 2-star and 247 has him a 3-star. Rivals didn't bother to rank J Davis. 247 has him as a 3-star.

Scout and 247 are similar. Scout has Liner a 5-star but Toney a 3-star.

Those are he facts. Our national recruiting analysts like Barton Simmons and JC Shurburtt are some of the best in the business and scout many of these prospects in-person several times.

Not sure what you mean, but I think the AU of the mid 20th C was great. The school today is where it is because of where it was then. What you do today determines what you will be tomorrow, etc. AU was great then and AU is great today.

      Well said.

    • Sorry Bryan, I was a little tired last night. I was looking on ESPN and they had both ranked in their top 10 but Dee was a four star. My bad. I really don't subscribe for the 247 as much as I do the work you, Phillip and the others at AUC do anyway. Keep up the good work. War Eagle everyone. GO BIG CAT WEEKEND GO!!!

    • In the mid '50's and on, Auburn Engineering was undergoing a very concentrated up rating and if you didn't know about it you probably weren't an engineering grad. Auburn engineers held their own and more. But it wasn't because of how they were trained in the classroom-it was because of their character and more. The Apollo program at Marshall space Flight Center had Auburn footprints all over it, because of what was done outside the class room. What Auburn engrained beyond the class room did for a man or woman was what was seen in the grads. Many of my generation held their own because that's what Auburn enrolees did, more often than not. National rating assesses the school. But a recent ranking put Auburn University higher in entering SAT Scores than any other Land Grant college south of a line from Washington DC to Dallas Texas. Don't remember the source, but think it may have been something written by one of our past Presidents. A University is more than publishing faculty, buildings, and money. It's also students and faculty seen in the class room every day. Auburn in the fifties was ranked pretty low. It needed upgrades. Now it may still need upgrades, but nowhere near as much as a half century ago. What I had reference to as needing upgrades now was Basketball and Baseball programs. Didn't want to tear into them by name as there is enough of that taking place.
