EDITOR'S NOTE: Auburn true freshman Carl Lawson had his breakout game Saturday, recording 2 sacks in a 30-22 win over Ole Miss. Shortly before Lawson enrolled this summer, Auburn Undercover caught up with him at his high school to watch him go through an offseason workout. Here's a look back at that story, along with video of Lawson shot that day at Milton (Ga.) High School.
Carl Lawson arrives at Auburn in three weeks.
MILTON, Ga. -- Carl Lawson does not intend to relax during the final few weeks before he arrives at Auburn to embark on his college career.
On the contrary, he is pushing himself.
Several days a week, the prized five-star defensive end signee from Milton High School meets with a trainer.
His goals are simple, but not easily attainable:
Get more agile.
Get more explosive.
"I've been practicing my d. line drills, and just been doing conditioning and lifting," Lawson told Auburn Undercover.
Lawson, you'll recall, was a major pickup for first-year Auburn coach Gus Malzahn and his staff back in February.
An Under Armour All-American, Lawson finished as the No. 21 overall prospect and No. 1 weak-side defensive end in the 247Composite for the 2013 class.
He committed to Auburn when it was led by the previous staff in 2012, and stuck with the Tigers after schools such as Clemson, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Tennessee put on the full-court press.
Lawson will begin classes at Auburn on June 18. He likely will get to the school a day or two before that, his father told Auburn Undercover.
According to Lawson's trainer, he currently weighs 261 pounds.
In this video feature, you'll find photos and video clips from Lawson's training session early Thursday evening, along with two video interviews -- one with his trainer and another with Lawson.
