Auburn’s Top 6 targets

Montravius Adams

Adams is close with AU coach Mike Pelton.

An inside look at Auburn's Top 6 overall recruiting targets.

    • If we can land Montravius, Jayron, and Tray I would be incredibly happy. The rest are just icing on the cake.

    • In order of desire:
      1) Adams
      2) Howard
      3) Matthews
      4) Green
      5) Crowder
      6) Kearse

I think we'll get Adams and Matthews. Who knows about the rest. God, I'd love to still Howard on signing day.

If we land your top 3-4 I would be completely amazed at this recruiting at Auburn. I can't believe how well were doing so early compared to the great surprises we usually land on signing day. The AU nation should truly appreciate the effort and determination behind this coaching staff. CVG's defense is gonna be LIGHTS OUT! So ready to sit back and enjoy these next 5-? Seasons!!

    • I just want the players who committed to stay committed. Signing day is a long way off and strange things seem to happen to Auburn leading up to that day.
      .
      EXAMPLE:
      .
      Kidnapping an Auburn recruit...ninja
      .
Player commits live on TV to Auburn on signing day and a few hours later after talking to someone..(cough.. uatea fan)...the parents or guardians (legal or not) changes their mind...rumor
      .
Spanky had nothing to do with it....nono..liar
      .
There's more but I will stop at three.
      .
      "I AIN'T TAKIN NUTTIN BUT ALL SIX"..banghead

    • My take on these guys:
      1. Adams. Would love to have him as DT will be a position of need sooner than later with Carter and Whittaker will graduate after 13. Bringing in a true DT now would be terrific to prep him for playing time.

      2. Crowder. Not sure on this one. He looks like a man-child and we haven't gotten much in terms of true interior linemen. That said, we took a lot of guys last year on the offensive line and a few of those guys will HAVE to move to the interior to find playing time.

      3. Green. Running back isn't a huge position of need to have a second back in the class in my opinion. I am going to reserve judgement until I see our roster of backs this fall but right now I would push this down the list of needs.

      4. Howard. I would love to get him as a slap in the face and a little payback. Right now we seem to have a lot of talent at the tight end spot and have a tight end committed. He's good though.

      5. Kearse. Seems a bit of a pain in the butt with two decommittments so far. Maybe he will settle in a bit, take his officials and do it right now. Otherwise, don't know much on him play wise, but receiver is a position of need since we are losing 3 this year.

6.Matthews. Get em. We have lacked true safeties with the mentality to play the spot for the past few years. Florence is going to be a good one and I would love to see Matthews added to the class.

I know we tend to forget about the players who came in the previous class...but Gabe Wright, Angelo Blackson, and Devante Siglar are all extremely talented, highly touted DT's. Those guys will have a chance this year to make a name for themselves...the cupboard on the D-line is pretty stout.

Absolutely but I haven't forgotten about anyone. In this league you need quality depth on the defensive line and losing two good ones will hurt and freshmen, unless exceptional, will struggle on the defensive line against SEC offensive linemen. You want your third team to have a year of gym work before being asked to hit the field in the trenches.

In this year's defensive line haul, Lawson might be the only one to really make an impact unless Liner is going in as a run stopping end. Lawson is at 240ish now and is fast, so he has the size to play end in the SEC now and Liner is a big end but a tiny SEC tackle at 275 to 280ish.

    • I'll take the best RB in the nation, ANY DAY.
Also, Howard is a FREAK. I'd love to have him to prevent playing against him in turdville.

      Bryan Matthews

    • Awesome position to be in right now.
Priority #1-holding on to the current commitments. Imperative that we don't lie like a Saban and ditch a 3 star for an upgrade. It might get you a number one recruiting class in February of 2013 but the lack of integrity will hurt later and that is not what the family atmosphere is built around.
      2. Adams-Defensive tackles that close to college ready don't just fall off a turnip truck.
      3. Matthews- position of need and that would really set up BVG with big time momentum in recruiting for future years
      4. Ice the cake with offensive talent but be very picky.

    • What are the chances to land another big time dt besides liner because our depth at dt is pretty good and with the incoming freshman at that position do you think they will be redshirted or get some playing time in .Safety and de is my biggest needs in this class i think. What you think bryan or phillip

      pjpepper55

    • I think Auburn's chances with M Adams is excellent right now. If Auburn doesn't sign Adams, I doubt they will land another DT in this class. I think both G President and T Nero will redshirt this season but that's to be determined this fall.

      Bryan Matthews

    • With last years number 1 offensive line class and this years potential #1 defensive line class with Adams hopefully committing. There be no way wed loose battles in the trenches. This is exciting!!!
