Malzahn, named Auburn's head football coach on Dec. 4, greeted a sellout crowd at halftime of Auburn's basketball game against Kentucky. Before leaving, he talked briefly about where things stand with Tiger football
On how things have gone since he took the job
"It's going good. It's been pretty fast, but it's been a good fast. Now that we have our coaches intact and they've been out on the road a week, it's been going pretty good."
On response from recruits
"Anytime a new staff comes in, a complete new staff, you're going to play catch-up. Our coaching staff has done a great job of identifying the guys and really recruiting them hard. I'm pretty pleased with this staff."
On the coaching staff he has assembled
"They've done a great job of coming together. We're one team with one heartbeat and one vision. They've really worked their tails off so far. I really see good things in the future with this group."
On the experience on the defensive staff
"I'd say our defensive group is the most experienced group out there, especially with the SEC. I thought that was important. Offensively, we feel very good. We've just got to get our defense back. That group can really do it."
On adding former AU great Dameyune Craig to the staff
"When I was first hired, I felt like it was very important to get a couple guys who played here at Auburn and were successful at Auburn to help us get our edge back. Dameyune Craig was definitely one of those guys I identified early. We're very fortunate to have him."
On the energy on campus
"I was here three years pervious. It was a great experience for me. We have the best fans in America. It's been a great response. I really appreciate them. It's been a lot of fun."
On talking to the fans at halftime
"It was a great experience for me personally to be out in front of our fans. You could feel the energy and the passion. We're proud of our basketball team also."
On the status of QB Clint Moseley
"He's no longer on the team. He's looking to get his degree."
