4-star JUCO DT commits

Devaroe Lawrence, a defensive tackle from Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, Ga., committed to Auburn during his official visit on Sunday.

“I’m a Tiger,” said the 4-star prospect. “All of the love I feel is good. It’s my family. I love it here. This morning (Auburn head coach) Gus Malzahn offered me. I’m excited, and so is everyone else.”

Lawrence, 6-foot-3 and 280 pounds, made his second trip to Auburn.

“Its family, you love Auburn and they love you 10 times more,” Lawrence said. “It’s just the love, the atmosphere and the brotherhood.”

Lawrence says that his relationship with Auburn’s defensive line coach Rodney Garner made all of the difference.

“I love Coach Garner, he’s going to be my coach,” Lawrence said. “Him calling me and talking to me all of the time is just big. He’s going to be my father figure here.”

Lawrence walked on to Georgia Military College last August and redshirted. He got the attention of many coaches after a standout spring.

“I never saw myself being in this position,” Lawrence said. “I told Coach Gus Malzahn the same thing. I watched Auburn win the National Championship in 2010 and never did I think that I would be here. This is big for me and it’s just an honor.”

Lawrence will be a March graduate at Georgia Military College and have three years to play three.

“I’ve just got to finish in the classroom,” Lawrence said. “On the field stuff will take care of itself, I just have to get things done in the classroom. I’m ready to work now. I’m getting strong at JUCO and I’m going to come in and work hard and play hard.”

According to Lawrence, he chose Auburn over reported offers from Arizona, Mississippi State and Southern Miss.

Lawrence is rated the nation’s No. 2 Junior College defensive tackle and No. 16 overall prospect in the 2014 recruiting class.

Lawrence is Auburn’s No. 14 commitment of the 2014 recruiting class and the second of the day.
